Parish History: est. 1855
The parish is 151 years young. The land was donated by George Rex. Two church buildings stand upon the land, the original, which is now called the Small Church and the larger Church which was hugged from black and white sandstone which was completed in 1935. The stone was cut by two stone masons from Scotland. Most of the church was built using local talent and contains many wooden carved panels and decorative woodwork made from ironwood and other local timber.
Historically, Knynsa’s infrastructure was related to the forestry and much to the preparation of timber cutting and prepared for shipping. The natural lagoon, with the spectacular entrance to the sea, make it a very attractive and beautiful place. The Church lies almost in the middle of the Town in Main Street.
